1. Core role: quantitatively detect pump performance and locate efficiency attenuation and root causes of failure

The water pump tester achieves the following core functions by driving the water pump to run and monitoring parameters such as flow, pressure, and speed:

Flow and head detection: Measure the water delivery volume (such as m³/h) and lifting height (head, in m) of the water pump in unit time to determine whether the pump efficiency meets the standard.

 

Shaft power and energy consumption analysis: Measure the input power of the water pump during operation, calculate the energy efficiency ratio (flow × head/power), and evaluate the energy consumption level.

 

Airtightness and leakage test: Pressure test the tightness of the water pump housing, shaft seals and other parts to locate the water leakage point.

 

 

 

2. Specific use scenarios

(1) Industrial water pump maintenance and fault diagnosis

 

Investigate water supply system efficiency decline

When the water pressure of the water supply system of waterworks and buildings is insufficient or the flow rate decreases, use a tester to measure:

Rated working condition flow: If the rated flow of a certain model of water pump is 100m³/h, but the actual measurement is only 70m³/h, it may be:

Wear of the impeller, fouling inside the pump body, and leakage of air in the suction pipe;

Bearing aging causes a decrease in speed (e.g. motor speed from 2900rpm to 2500rpm).

Insufficient lift: The water pump cannot lift the water to the specified height (e.g., the rated lift is 50m, the measured lift is 30m), which may be caused by broken impeller blades or excessive seal ring clearance.

 

Diagnosis of abnormal vibration and abnormal noise of water pump

Vibration exceeds the standard or noise is emitted during operation, and it is monitored synchronously by a tester:

Speed and vibration frequency: If the vibration frequency is twice the speed, it may be that the impeller is unbalanced or the shaft is bent;

Bearing temperature: Overheated bearings (exceeding 80℃) may require disassembly, inspection and replacement due to poor lubrication or wear.

 

(2) Automobile engine cooling system testing

 

Fault location of excessive engine water temperature

When the engine overheats frequently, use a portable water pump tester to test:

Coolant flow: The flow rate at normal idle speed is about 5-8L/min. If the flow rate is insufficient (such as 3L/min), it may be:

Corrosion of the water pump impeller (long-term erosion of the cast iron impeller by coolant), slipping of the impeller and shaft (worn keyways);

The stuck thermostat causes poor circulation, which can be verified by simulating the flow of large circulation with a tester.

Leakage of water pump shaft seal: Observe whether there is any water dripping from the pump shaft during testing (normal slight leakage is allowed, and the shaft seal needs to be replaced if more than 5 drops per minute).

 

Post-repair performance verification

After replacing the car water pump, verify through the tester:

Return the flow to the rated value (if the rated flow of the original water pump is 12L/min, the actual measurement should be ≥11L/min);

There is no abnormal vibration (amplitude ≤0.05mm) to avoid early damage caused by improper installation.

 

(3) Agricultural and engineering machinery water pump testing

Irrigation pump efficiency evaluation: If the flow rate of the farmland irrigation pump decreases, use a tester to determine whether the impeller is worn by sediment (for example, the impeller gap increases from 0.5mm to 1.5mm after wear, and the flow rate decreases by 20%).

 

Maintenance of cooling water pumps for construction machinery: If the engine water pump of excavators or cranes leaks, a tester can be used to maintain pressure (such as 1BAR pressure) to detect shell cracks to prevent coolant penetrating into the engine oil and causing engine damage.

 

(4) Water pump R & D and quality control

New product performance test: The water pump manufacturer uses a tester to verify whether the flow rate, head, noise and other indicators of the prototype meet the design standards (such as ISO 9906 pump performance test specification).

 

Batch production random inspection: Sample and inspect the finished water pumps to ensure the consistency of performance of each pump (such as flow deviation ≤±5%).

Portable: Suitable for on-site maintenance (such as car repair shops), equipped with battery-driven and quick-plug connectors, quickly connecting the inlet and outlet of the water pump;

Fixed type: Used for factory quality inspection, integrates motor drive, flow sensor and data acquisition system to automatically generate performance curves.

The advanced tester can simultaneously display flow, pressure, speed, power, temperature and other data, generate a P-Q curve (pressure-flow relationship), and visually determine whether the water pump working point is in the efficient area.

Energy consumption analysis and transformation: For high-energy-consuming water pumps, optimize impeller parameters through tester data or replace high-efficiency models (such as upgrading a water pump with an efficiency of 60% to 75%, and reducing annual power consumption by 15%).
