Insulation resistance requirements for hand tools under different voltage environments

info-914-308

The insulation resistance requirements of hand tools vary under different voltage environments. Here are some specific standards and requirements:

1. Class I handheld power tools
The insulation resistance of Class I handheld power tools should not be less than 2MΩ. This standard is formulated from the perspective of electrical safety to ensure that the tools can provide sufficient electrical isolation to prevent current leakage to the user under normal use and humid conditions.

2. Class III handheld power tools
According to the national standard GB 3883.1-2014 "Power Tools Part 1: General Requirements", the insulation resistance of Class III handheld power tools shall not be less than 1MΩ, and the DC voltage test voltage shall not be less than 1500V. In addition, for Class III handheld power tools used in specific environments, such as humid, high temperature, flammable and other special environments, it is necessary to strengthen insulation protection measures according to actual conditions to ensure safety.

3. Insulation resistance requirements under different voltage environments
Low voltage environment:
For the acceptance test of low-voltage electrical installations, the insulation resistance of motors, distribution equipment and distribution lines at room temperature shall not be less than 0.5MΩ.
For equipment and lines in operation, the insulation resistance shall not be less than 1MΩ/kV.
The insulation resistance of low-voltage electrical appliances, their connecting cables and secondary circuits should generally not be less than 1MΩ; in a relatively humid environment, it should not be less than 0.5MΩ; the insulation resistance of the secondary circuit busbar should not be less than 10MΩ.

High-voltage environment:
The insulation resistance requirements of high-voltage cables are relatively high, generally above 5MΩ.
For power cables, the insulation resistance value is usually determined according to the rated voltage and length of the cable, and will decrease with increasing temperature.

IV. Precautions for insulation resistance testing
Before conducting an insulation resistance test, ensure that the power supply of the device under test has been cut off and short-circuited to the ground to ensure personal and equipment safety during the test.

A suitable insulation resistance tester should be used during the test, and the appropriate test voltage should be selected according to the rated voltage and insulation level of the device under test.

During the test, care should be taken to keep the surface of the device under test dry and clean to reduce contact resistance and error.
The test results should comply with relevant standards and regulations. If not, they should be repaired or replaced in a timely manner.
