Torque Wrench Use and Care

What precautions should be taken when using long nose pliers?

1. Purpose of torque wrenches
Torque wrenches are mainly used to accurately control the torque force when tightening bolts or nuts. In many mechanical assembly scenarios, such as automobile manufacturing, aerospace equipment assembly, and large-scale machinery construction, screws need to be tightened according to specific torque requirements to ensure the safety and reliability of the connection of various components. For example, in the assembly of automobile engines, if the torque of bolt tightening is too large, it may cause bolt breakage or deformation of parts; while too small torque may loosen the connection and affect the performance and safety of the entire engine 1.
In the construction industry, torque wrenches are also widely used in the construction of steel structures. Bolt connections in some key parts require precise torque to ensure the stability of the structure.
2. Use of torque wrenches
Choose a suitable torque wrench: Choose the corresponding torque wrench according to the required torque range. If the torque range is not selected properly, the required torque force may not be accurately applied, or the torque wrench may be damaged. For example, in the assembly of small electronic equipment, a torque wrench with a smaller torque range may be required, while large-scale machinery assembly requires a tool with a larger torque range.
Correctly set the torque value: Most modern torque wrenches have an adjustable torque setting function. Before use, the torque value needs to be accurately set according to actual needs. This value can usually be obtained from the assembly manual of the equipment or relevant standards.
Correct operation method: When using a torque wrench to tighten bolts or nuts, keep the wrench perpendicular to the bolt to ensure that the force is applied in the correct direction. At the same time, apply force steadily to avoid sudden impact force to ensure accurate application of torque.
3. Maintenance of torque wrench
Cleaning: After use, oil, dust and other impurities on the surface of the torque wrench should be cleaned in time. You can wipe it with a clean cloth to prevent impurities from entering the wrench and affecting its accuracy.
Storage: Store the torque wrench in a dry and ventilated environment to avoid humid and corrosive environments. If it is not used for a long time, you can apply an appropriate amount of anti-rust oil on the wrench to prevent rust.
Regular calibration: Since the accuracy of the torque wrench is crucial to its use effect, it needs to be calibrated regularly. The calibration cycle can be determined according to the frequency of use. Generally, the calibration cycle is relatively short in the case of frequent use. Calibration requires the use of professional equipment and methods, usually by professional metrology agencies or trained personnel.
