Pipe wrench, a commonly used manual hardware tool, is generally a clamping tool used to clamp and rotate steel pipes. When in use, the pipe can be clamped by the clamp head part of the pliers, and then rotated with force to complete the connection or disassembly. The working principle is to convert the clamping force of the clamp head into twisting torque, which is used in the twisting direction. The greater the force, the tighter the pipe can be clamped. Pipe clamps are widely used in petroleum pipeline and civil pipeline installation as well as oil fields and mining industries.
1. The body of the pipe wrench is generally cast from ductile iron, which has the characteristics of high strength and good toughness. There are also aluminum alloy pliers. Compared with the material of ductile iron, aluminum alloy is lighter, but the cost is relatively high, so the pipe wrenches on the market are still mainly made of ductile iron.
2. The clamp head of a pipe wrench is the most important component that determines its functionality, so it is generally made of alloy steel (such as chromium-molybdenum steel) and undergoes heat treatment to achieve sufficient hardness, toughness and long service life.
3. According to their styles, pipe wrenches mainly include American style, British style, German style, chain type, etc. Among them, American style and British style are the most commonly used. The main difference is that the position of the adjusting nut is different in the clamp body. The details are as follows:
The English pipe wrench, also called the monkey pipe wrench, has a slightly slanted head opening. American pipe wrench is slightly lighter, easy to use and affordable. The American chain is hinged to the clamp handle through the coupling plate, that is, one end of the chain is hinged to one end of the coupling plate, and the other end of the coupling plate is hinged to the clamp handle.

The teeth at the front end of the pliers handle are distributed in an arc. When the chain type pipe wrench is working, the non-articulated end of the chain is free and not fixed or hinged with the clamp handle. Basically, there is no big difference between the two, and both British-style pipe wrenches and American-style pipe wrenches are quite easy to use. Generally, the jaws of the pipe wrench are precision forged from high-quality carbon steel and have excellent toughness. The clamp body is made of ductile iron, which prevents the clamped objects from deforming easily. The unique upper and lower bite jaw design ensures a strong clamping effect.
4. Pipe wrench specifications are generally named according to their total length. Common specifications are: 8" (200mm), 10" (250mm), 12" (300mm), 14" (350mm), 18" (450mm), 24 "(600mm), 36" (900mm), 48" (1200mm), etc.
5. Pipe wrenches can be divided into heavy-duty, heavy-duty, light-duty, etc. according to the weight of the body. Generally, those made of ductile iron are heavy-duty, and those made of aluminum alloy are light-duty.
6. Nowadays, according to the needs of different customers, there are also some special-shaped pipe wrenches, such as multi-functional pipe wrenches, fast pipe wrenches, supercharged pipe wrenches, etc.
