Steering oil pump output pressure detection: Measure the pressure value of the booster pump under different working conditions to determine whether the performance of the pump body is attenuated.

2. Specific use scenarios

(1) Insufficient steering assistance/failure diagnosis

Troubleshooting heavy steering wheel

The steering wheel becomes significantly heavier when steering, use a tester to measure:

Idle pressure of the booster pump: During normal idling, the output pressure of the booster pump is about 60-80BAR. If the pressure is too low (such as 40BAR), it may be:

The booster pump belt is slipping, the pump body is worn, and the hydraulic oil is insufficient or contaminated;

The filter of the steering oil can is blocked and the oil passage is filled.

Steering gear working pressure: When turning the steering wheel to the limit position, the system pressure should rise to the rated value (such as 100-120BAR). If the pressure cannot be increased, the internal seals of the steering gear may be damaged or the rack is stuck.

 

Diagnosis of abnormal sound in booster pump

When the booster pump makes a "buzzing" sound, observe the pressure fluctuations through the tester:

If the pressure fluctuates periodically and is accompanied by abnormal noises, it may be due to wear of the oil pump blades or air in the hydraulic oil (bubbles cause pressure pulsation).

 

(2) Steering system leakage and tightness test

When it is found that the liquid level in the steering oil can drops, use a tester to conduct a pressure maintenance test on the system (such as maintaining the pressure of 100BAR for 10 minutes):

If the pressure drops rapidly (more than 5BAR per minute), it may be:

The steering oil pipe interface is aging, the power pump oil seal leaks, and the steering gear piston seal is damaged.

By applying fluorescent agent to suspected leakage points and cooperating with ultraviolet light to observe the leakage position, the faulty parts are accurately located.

 

Performance verification after replacement parts

After replacing the booster pump, steering gear or oil pipe, use a tester to verify that the system pressure meets the standard to ensure that the new parts are installed correctly and there are no leaks (for example, the pressure drop during the pressure retention test should be less than 2BAR/10 minutes).

 

(3) Performance optimization of power steering system

Assist pump flow regulation: Some models of assist pumps are equipped with flow control valves. Pressure changes are monitored through a tester and the valve opening is adjusted to match the steering feel (such as reducing the assist at high speeds to improve steering stability).

 

Steering oil replacement and emptying: After replacing the hydraulic oil, use a tester to assist in removing air in the oil circuit (such as repeatedly turning the direction during idle operation and observing whether the pressure gauge fluctuates smoothly) to avoid power lag caused by air.
